THE WHY BEHIND OUR PROGRAM DESIGN

"Show Me The Data"

Our founder, Dr. Volpicelli, is known for his scientific play on the famous Jerry McGuire quote. He is continually saying, “show me the data.”

After several decades of clinical research and academic contributions, Dr. Volpicelli learned that few research data were being applied to clinical practice.

Inspired to apply real findings into real clinical practice, Dr. Volpicelli left the University of Pennsylvania and opened the Volpicelli Center. He had one goal in mind:

Utilize the information derived from research to help real members of the community. 

Since opening in 2009, The Volpicelli Center has incorporated evidence-based practices into every element of our program; from the treatment models to the medications to the program design.

The research proves frequent patient engagement produces higher retention in treatment. For this reason, our program was designed to include four phrases to effectively free you from addiction and deliver you into sustained sobriety.

The 4 Phases of Addiction Treatment

  1. Detoxification (as needed).

    We specialize in safely detoxing patients from substances like heroin and alcohol. During the detoxification phase, your vital signs and symptoms will be recorded at our office, but the rest of process takes place at home.

  2. Stabilization.

    During the stablization phase, you will meet with your clinician each week for three months. You will collaborate with your clinician to create a care plan, initiate medication if necessary, and begin to identify and achieve treatment goals.

  3. Transition.

    During the transition phase, you will meet with your clinician every other week for an additional three months. You will collaborate with your clinician to assess your progress and refine your treatment plan. Just like our treatment protocols, your care plan evolves with you! We use your data to enhance your treatment experience.

  4. Maintenance.

    During the maintenance phase, your appointments will occur monthly for six months. We will work closely with you to ensure treatment progress and lasting change.

Our program was designed to last one year. However, we know the work does not have to end there! Many of our patients choose to continue to work collaboratively with their clinician on other areas of their lives beyond the first year of treatment.

Outpatient Detox

This 3–7-day process is vital for lasting recovery. Our ambulatory detoxification allows our clients to remain home with their families or even go to work as addictive substances are safely and comfortably removed from their bodies.

Medical Treatment to Assist in Long-term Recovery

For clients who are free from ependence on alcohol or other drugs, our goal is to reduce the risk of relapse and improve psychosocial functioning. This typically includes the combination of medications that reduce drug cravings and block the pleasurable effects of drugs or alcohol.

Our psychosocial support is designed to work together with medications to improve long-term recovery. Treatment is individualized to meet each person's specific needs. This second aspect of rehabilitation at the Volpicelli Center is crucial to your recovery.
